Driving Decarbonization: Nina Tower's Zero-Carbon Chiller System Earns Top Honor at
HKIE's Excellent Building Award 2026

Trane Hong Kong, a business of global climate innovator Trane Technologies (NYSE: TT), is proud to have served as the chiller supplier for Hong Kong’s First Zero-Carbon Chiller System at Nina Tower, which has won the Grand Award (Existing Building) at The Excellent Building Award 2026. The project has also received two Special Awards: Project Efficacy Endeavor Award and Excellent A&A Laureate Award. All awards were presented by the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE).

The prestigious awards recognize Trane’s contributions to the innovative chiller retrofit that has helped Nina Tower reduce electricity consumption by over 50%, equivalent to avoiding 7,000 metric tons of carbon emissions annually.

The project also supports the client’s ambitious carbon reduction roadmap, contributing to its goal of cutting group-wide carbon emissions by 51.8% by 2030 from a 2020 baseline.

Located in the heart of Tsuen Wan, Nina Tower is a landmark mixed-use development. Trane retrofitted the property’s existing air-cooled chiller system with 33 high-efficiency Trane^® CenTraVac^® water-cooled centrifugal chillers. With a total cooling capacity of 9,300 refrigeration tons (RT), the new system enables zero-carbon operation, becoming Hong Kong’s first chiller system powered by zero-carbon electricity, and serving as a benchmark for sustainable cooling solutions.

The Excellent Building Award, organized by the HKIE Building Services Division, recognizes building projects that demonstrate outstanding implementation of advanced and effective building services engineering solutions, promoting excellence in the built environment.
